DAYLILY GARDENS
We are situated in Hillcrest, KZNatal and visitors are most welcome. We don’t operate normal nursery hours but please phone to arrange a visit. We also have a large range of unlisted new and older cultivars from which visitors may choose. Peak flowering is from mid November.

DAYLILY CULTIVARS
All our stock has been hybridised in and imported from the U.S.A. Hybridiser’s name can be supplied on request. All daylilies bloom profusely in spring and most of our cultivars rebloom through summer and autumn.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR DAYLILIES
Daylilies are drought resistant and very easy to grow under a wide range of climatic conditions. They are also virtually disease and pest free. This does not mean they thrive on neglect.
Planting – Daylilies can be planted throughout the year. They prefer lots of sunshine but will also do well in partial shade. Plants should be planted with the crown (where roots and stem meet) about 2cm below ground level in well worked soil mixed generously with compost and/or kraal manure plus superphosphate. Plants should be spaced 30 to 45cm apart. Remember to soak plants received through the post for a few hours before planting. Divide clumps every 3 to 4 years to ensure bloom quality is maintained.
Feeding – Feed with a general fertilizer, eg 2.3.2. or 3.1.5. early in spring and again after the first blooming period (about January) and again in early autumn. They do appreciate a mulch of compost in early spring.
Watering – Although drought resistant, daylilies will grow faster, look better and have larger and more blooms over an extended period if well watered. In frost free areas some cultivars will flower well into winter if well watered.
Note – If you have any queries about daylily care please phone Melanie at any time (031) 777 1179.
